Keep your gums and teeth healthy with regular cleanings and exams.
We use an ultrasonic device that emits vibrations to knock larger pieces of tartar loose. The ultrasonic device sprays a cooling mist of water while it works to wash away debris and keep the area at a comfortable temperature. Next, hand tools called scalers and curettes are used to manually remove smaller deposits and smooth the tooth surfaces. The teeth are then polished using a slow speed hand piece.
Digital radiography is a form of x-ray imaging, where digital x-ray sensors are used instead of traditional photographic film. Advantages include time efficiency through bypassing chemical processing and the ability to digitally transfer and enhance images. Also, less radiation can be used to produce an image of similar contrast to conventional radiography.
Instead of x-ray film, digital radiography uses a digital image capture device. This gives advantages of immediate image preview and availability; elimination of costly film processing steps; a wider dynamic range, which makes it more forgiving for over- and under-exposure; as well as the ability to apply special image processing techniques that enhance overall display quality of the image.
A simple extraction is a routine procedure performed to remove a visible tooth. A local anesthetic is given to the patient to numb the area. The tooth is loosened with specialized instruments and grasped with forceps. The tooth continues to be loosened until the tooth "slides out" of the bone socket. In some cases a suture is placed that will close the extraction site so that the area can heal faster, but in most cases a suture is not needed at all.
Bruxism, or teeth grinding, affects about 10 to 15 percent of adults, according to the American Dental Association.
There are several ways to alleviate the effects of bruxism. One of the most common is a night guard. Our guards are high-quality, and have superior fit and comfort, as they are made in a special laboratory from an impression of your mouth taken carefully in our office.
Most people have some fear and anxiety about going to the dentist due the anticipation or expectation of it being painful. We dislike pain as much as you do and we are aware of your fears! At Magnolia Family Dentistry, we utilize several techniques to help minimize and eliminate the pain often associated with dental experiences. With the technology available today, we can deliver painless dental treatment to patients of all ages.
Root canal therapy is needed when the nerve of a tooth is affected by decay or infection. In order to save the tooth, the tissue inside, nerves, bacteria, and any decay are removed and the resulting space is filled with special medicated dental materials which restore the tooth to its full function. Teeth needing root canal therapy are not always symptomatic.
Having root canal therapy on a tooth is the treatment of choice to save a tooth that otherwise would get infected, swell and lead to severe complications. Many patients believe that removing a tooth that has problems is the best solution, but extracting (pulling) a tooth will ultimately be more costly and cause significant problems for adjacent teeth. Root canal treatment is highly successful and usually lasts a lifetime, although occasionally a tooth may have to be re-treated due to new infections.
sports mouth guards
Mouth guards are an important piece of athletic equipment for anyone participating in a sport that involves falls, body contact or flying equipment.
Our guards provide the most comfortable fit and best protection. We'll make an impression of your teeth and then construct the mouth guard over this model. Because they fit and feel better, most athletes prefer customized mouth guards.
